What is Collaborative Research?

Collaborative research, also known as "research partnership", is the type of research conducted by Carnot M.I.N.E.S.

It involves applying scientific knowledge and findings to concrete industrial and societal challenges. It also fosters the creation of new knowledge through exchanges between researchers from public and private laboratories. In this sense, beyond being purely applied, collaborative research is oriented toward industrial, economic, or societal questions and serves as a precursor to the competitive research developed internally by companies.

Within our laboratories, it combines academic scientific expertise with our technological, metrological, and digital platforms. This gives our work a tangible applicability, making it valuable to external stakeholders and justifying their financial contribution.

A Mix of Objectives

Research partnership integrates multiple objectives, which contribute to the coherence of its unique economic model:

  • The Carnot M.I.N.E.S institute fulfills its mission of knowledge valorization while benefiting from the outcomes of research: contributions to education through research, PhD topics, publications, researcher development, quality of teaching, scientific outreach, intellectual property elements, etc.

  • Partner companies leverage the research findings to complement their internal R&D efforts and gain access to scientific networks. A key aspect of knowledge transfer also occurs through PhD graduates trained within these projects, who naturally integrate into the economic sector.
  •

This joint activity contributes to overall technological advancement while enabling laboratories to acquire additional resources beyond those provided by the state, ensuring their continuous development and innovation.
